5 reasons women feel pain during sex

Many women often blame themselves of this situation in which they most times feel pain during sex that is because when they are in such situation both partners find sex not pleasurable anymore.


The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have estimated that over 75% of women feel pain during sex. For many women it would be an uncommon condition, but for some it is a persistent condition. 

Medical experts call a condition in which a woman often feels pain during sex Dyspareunia. Pain during sex can be quite disgusting and can sometimes reduce your partner's sex drive due to not being able to get satisfaction, and this can lead to disagreement between you and your partner.

It is important you report to your health care provider whenever you notice this pain to be consistent.

Because of the high rate of this condition women have seen this condition as a threat to their relationship and this has brought about many questions like” am I normal? Why do I often feel pain whenever I want to have sex?

In this article we have outlined some of the most common reasons why some women feel pain during sex.

1.  Vaginal dryness: vaginal dryness is one of the most common cause women feel pain during sex.

Dryness is mostly common in menopausal and postmenopausal women, but young women also can experience dryness and this can make sex painful.

2. Vaginismus: in this condition there is usually a tight muscular contraction (especially the pelvic floor muscles) when something wants to enter inside the vagina, such as medical device or the penis during intercourse, such condition is known as vaginismus and this can cause pain during sex.

3. Infection: infections such as bacteria vaginosis, yeast infections, Sexually Transmitted Infection, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease etc can alter the balance  of the vagina and can cause pain during sex  and some other symptoms like itching, vaginal discharge etc

4. Premenstrual syndrome: in this condition there is usually an occurrence of both physical and emotional problems such as abdominal pain, headaches, tension, change in libido etc prior to a woman's menstrual period, such conditions is called premenstrual syndrome. 5. Secondary diseases: some diseases such as ovarian cyst, vulvodynia, fibroids Endometriosis etc can also cause pain during intercourse.
